Trust & safety

You stay in control of all of it

You’re about to let someone into your house. Here’s exactly what we check for you, what we keep private, and what you can do if it goes wrong.

Four checks, and you see the ones they haven’t done

Two are required before a tradie can apply for your job. Which two depends on what they are.

Company

Identity + NZBN

Sole trader

Identity + proof of address

A company has a public register to check against. A sole trader does not, so an address stands in for it.

  1. Identity Everyone

Government photo ID, matched to the person running the profile.

    Says nothing about their work.

  2. Business Companies

An NZBN registered to the trading name, printed on their profile so you can look it up.

Not a promise of good work.

  3. Proof of address Sole traders

A statement or bill from the last three months, in the same name as their ID.

Never published. You are never shown where anyone lives.

  4. Trade licence Optional

A current licence on the EWRB, PGDB or LBP register. The number is printed too.

Licenses the person, not the job. It goes grey the day it lapses.

On a profile

Unearned badges are drawn too, as the empty setting waiting for them.

In some trades, a missing licence is a finding

Electrical and plumbing cannot legally be done unlicensed. In those trades we flag the gap in amber rather than leave it as an empty space you might read as nothing.

Lapsed, and never provided.

Restricted building work needs an LBP. Gas and drainlaying need a PGDB licence.

What we don’t check

Documents and public registers, at a point in time. Nobody here has seen this tradie’s work or judged whether they are any good at it. That is what the rating and the reviews are for, and neither can be hidden.

If something doesn’t check out, the badge simply isn’t there. We don’t publish the failure.

A lapsed licence goes grey on its own

The badge stops counting the moment the date passes, without anyone having to notice. A badge you can see is current today.

Your number never reaches them

Ring a tradie and the call runs through us. They never see your number, so you never get a cold call about a job you didn’t go ahead with.

Not on the profile, not during the call, not in any record afterwards.

  • Blocking is complete. One tap closes calls, messages and any new job at once.
  • Your address is separate, and later. Only shared once you’ve picked someone.
  • Browsing stays private. You decide when to get in touch.

Your number stays yours to give

We never pass it on. Swap numbers later if you want to. That’s your call.

The price they quote is the price you pay

Nothing added, nothing deducted, and Taskovery is not in the payment at all. Your tradie invoices you and you settle it with them, the same as anyone you found yourself.

  1. They name a price

Once they’ve seen your job. One figure, and what it covers, in writing.

  2. You accept it, or you don’t

Nothing is owed until you accept. The figure is recorded here, so there is an answer if it is ever argued about.

  3. They invoice you

Your tradie bills you directly. Their invoice, their terms, their bank account.

  4. We take no part of it

No commission, no fee, nothing added. We are paid by partners for their plan, and that is the same amount whatever they bill you.

What this gets you, and what it does not

Taskovery has no account your money passes through. There is nothing here for us to freeze, lose or fall over with, nothing added to your tradie’s price, and no cut taken out of it.

We cannot reverse or refund a payment. We are not in it, so we have no power over it. That is a real limit, and you should know it before you accept a price.

What you keep: your Consumer Guarantees Act rights, the checks on their profile, the recorded figure, and the ability to report them and leave a review. Tell us if you get nowhere. Their account and their reviews are the part we control.

Why we stopped holding it

We used to. Your payment sat with Stripe until you confirmed the work, so we could take a 10% commission as it passed.

There is no commission now, so there is nothing to collect and no reason to sit in the middle of someone else’s payment. Holding other people’s money is a regulated activity here, and we would rather be plainly outside it.

$0you pay us, ever
$0added to your tradie’s price
0cuts taken from your tradie
$0of yours Taskovery ever touches

We never charge you a cent

No fee, no add-on, no service charge, no insurance product. The price your tradie quoted is what you pay them. Our numbers are published too.

Something not right? Tell us

Take it up with your tradie first. If you get nowhere, tell us. We can’t claw back a payment we were never in, but we can act on their account and their reviews.

Taskovery charges you nothing, and never will

Not a booking fee, not a service charge, not a percentage. Tradies pay a flat monthly amount that has nothing to do with what they bill you.

Two things that protect you

We only ever ask you for money inside the app, against a job, at a price you already accepted. Nobody from Taskovery will ring, text or email asking for a payment, a deposit, or your card to “verify your account”. If that happens, it isn’t us. Tell us at help@trustlane.co.nz.

And your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act still apply however you paid. What we do sits on top of them, it doesn’t replace them.

When you’re looking at a paid result

Some tradies pay to appear first. You get told which ones, and you get two ways of looking that nobody can buy.

A bought week of placement lifts a tradie in Best match and marks them Promoted. Nothing else differs, and a monthly plan buys no position at all. You can’t buy a green shield and you can’t buy a star.

  • Every promoted card says so, on the card, not in a footnote.
  • Closest is genuinely closest. No placement at all. Nearest first, in order.
  • Top rated is genuinely top rated. Also untouched. The best rated first, whatever anyone pays.
  • Intros are ordered by what you asked for. Your setting, on your post.

Every review you read came from a real job

Nobody can post one without having actually hired that tradie and seen the job through to Completed.

  • One job, one review. Every star on a profile traces back to a job that actually happened.
  • Everyone writes freely. Reviews publish about half a day later, so each goes up on its own merits.
  • Ratings are calculated, not claimed. Worked out on our side from real jobs.
  • A public right of reply. Providers can answer any review once it’s up.

What you can do if something goes wrong

All of it is one tap away, and you never have to explain yourself.

Tell us, in your own words

Flag anything right from the item itself, in your own words. No category to squeeze it into. A person reads every one.

Block them, instantly

One tap, immediate and mutual. Messages, posts and any new job, all closed. You never have to explain it.

Talk to a person

Email help@trustlane.co.nz. In an emergency, always ring 111 first.

You’re covered by more than us

Hire a licensed tradie and you also get the national bodies behind you: the PGDB for plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying, the EWRB for electrical work, MBIE’s Licensed Building Practitioner scheme, and Consumer Protection NZ for your Consumer Guarantees Act rights.

Everything we know about you

It’s a short list, and this is all of it.

What we hold

  • Your name, phone number and suburb
  • Your job posts and the messages you send in the app
  • Your street address, shared only once you’ve chosen someone
  • For providers: business details, trades, coverage area, and verification documents
  • The price on each job and where the money got to, visible only to the two of you
  • Enough activity to build the Insights funnel. De-duplicated, never sold

Things you never have to hand over

  • Card details to a tradie. You pay Taskovery, and a processor will hold the card, not us and not them
  • Your phone number to the other side. Calls run through us
  • Your bank details. Money comes back the way you paid it
  • Live location. A suburb and a radius is all it takes
  • Your contacts, your photo library, or anything from your other apps
  • Anything for advertising. There are no ads in either app

Anything you’d like to ask?

Ask us directly. We’re happy to walk you through any of it.
